Horse Riders Also Need Insurance

There are many people who love horse riding. They may do it for pleasure or they may want to train their horses to participate in races. People may own their own horses or they may hire them or they may join a stable group which lends horses for people to ride. In all these cases there is always an element of risk that the horse may meet with an accident or it may throw up the rider or something untoward may happen to the person.

Hence it is better to buy horse riding insurance so that all eventualities are covered. There are many types of equestrian insurance. There is insurance coverage for the rider and his personal horse and there is insurance coverage for people who involve themselves in equestrian activities using other people’s horses. One has to remember that even the gentlest of animals can be spooked or get involved in accidents while being ridden. Some sudden sound or shot or some unexpected happenings while the horse is galloping can cause accidents. This can require hospitalization, which costs a lot of money. It is always better to have insurance coverage for all these circumstances. A policy that includes coverage of accidents and provides medical insurance as a rider, or to prevent others from suing in an accident should be bought as soon as a person begins to ride horses.

These insurance policies cover riders who are between the ages of five and seventy-five and protect them in case of injuries resulting from accidents of all types while involved in riding. There is some coverage, which provides protection while traveling or participating and competing in shows. These can be purchased for the rider as well as the horse itself. Most policies can be individualized to suit the personal conditions and situations. Riders may be new ones or seasoned ones and everyone can be covered by insurance.

Student riders are also advised to purchase insurance to cover common accidents while learning to ride. The rider may be very confident of himself and his horse but situations can arise which result in mishaps, hospitalization, medication etc. Sometimes even permanent injuries can occur leaving the rider maimed for life. Often there is a waiver, which releases the owner of the horse from responsibility when someone else uses the animal. But the person who rides should definitely be covered by insurance so that he doe not have to shell money from his pocket in case something happens.

Horses are big animals and even a simple kick can land a person in hospital. As the person becomes an expert in horse riding, he may feel like jumping, cross-country or some other extreme sport, which is fraught with dangers. He may want a challenging horse that is rebellious or defiant and handling such a horse can lead to accidents. It is not only during dangerous rides that something can happen; it can even happen during a simple ride. The horse may get frightened even if a car backfires and may unseat the rider, creating a health hazard.

Just as everyone buys life insurance, home insurance and car insurance and hopes he may never have to use it, so also buying horse riding insurance is better even if he never has to use it.
